Flights
I fly quite often and am happy in economy; I prefer a window seat when available. I do not have a preferred airline and typically travel with just a carry-on, but please check with me as some events may call for a checked bag. If you are booking for me, please ensure my reservation is listed as “Deaf or hard of hearing” so I am not placed in an exit row. I have a Known Traveler Number (for TSA Pre-Check), please ask for it.
Overnight Stays
I need a mattress of some type and cannot sleep directly on the floor due to back issues. I don’t mind staying in someone’s home, but when sleeping I require a door between me and anyone I am not already acquainted with. If you are booking for several visitors, please check with me as I may know someone and then I am happy to share a room.
Food and Drink
I am a vegetarian, and eggs and dairy are fine. I do not eat fish. I have no food allergies, but I dislike mushrooms. I prefer flavored water or seltzers to plain, and can only drink diet sodas, not regular. I don’t drink alcohol when I am working, but I enjoy trying local beers when an event has ended.
Disability Needs
My preferred method of communication is sign language. I am capable of communicating in English, but I am at my best when I have ASL interpreters. Outside the US and Canada, I am also happy to work with International Sign interpreters. I know a number of interpreters who can work in this field, please ask me for individual referrals. I can also provide advice on fundraising for interpreter costs.
Additionally, my knees prefer elevators to stairs, but I can handle a couple of flights if needed.
